The Cold Pressed Oils and Argan Oil Benefits

Cold Pressed Oils

It’s a widely held belief that natural cold-pressed oils are significantly healthier than their extra virgin versions. Natural products already have an excellent reputation for being naturally healthy because they retain their essential nutrients and natural flavor. At the same time, though, they’re considerably safer because they don’t involve any artificial chemicals in either the processing or production stages. They are also far more environmentally friendly than pharmaceuticals. But does it really make sense to consume something with fewer advantages than its counterpart?

Several Plant Oils and Fats

There are several plant oils and fats that are cold pressed, including Shea butter, cold pressed olive oil, cold-pressed canola oil and cold pressed walnuts. Most of these are nutritionally very healthy and have several health benefits, including antiviral, antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. Some, however, are chemically enhanced. The addition of chemical additives such as fragrance, preservatives and colouring makes them no better than pure products. For this reason, it’s important to look at the cold-press advantages and disadvantages of each.

Shea Butter

Shea butter, one of the most popular plant oils used in making cold-pressed oils, has antioxidant and blood reducing qualities. Like other natural oils, it reduces LDL (bad) cholesterol while increasing HDL (good) cholesterol. Research on the effects of Shea butter on cardiovascular disease has shown a positive result. Shea nuts contain theobromine, a compound that appears to improve blood flow, as well as other stimulants that increase heart rate. There is some evidence that cold-pressed oils containing Shea butter, when added to a weight loss diet, may help you lose more weight.

Most Exciting Research is that of Sunflower Oil

But one of the cold-pressed oils with the most exciting research is that of sunflower oil. The researchers found that sunflower oil contains compounds that activate thermogenesis, the process through which heat is produced in the body. This is an exciting development. Not only does it provide a source of immediate energy, but it may also help to prevent or reverse chronic diseases, such as diabetes.

In addition to sunflower oil, argan oil is another alternative used in cold-press oils. A number of recent studies have indicated that the active compounds in the oil, called eurycoma longifolia, may have some anticancer activity. These compounds are thought to be responsible for the increased concentration of DNA strands in cancer cells, as well as the increased size of tumors. Other research indicates that argan oil may also have some cardiovascular benefits, although the specific mechanisms are not understood.

Type of Arthritis Therapy

Of course, the type of arthritis therapy that you choose depends on the specific condition that you are trying to treat. For example, if your doctor has recommended that you take a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), such as ibuprofen, then it would make sense to take a supplement that contains vitamin e. The vitamin is thought to slow inflammation and so help to control pain. However, NSAIDs are known to cause some serious side effects. So, in theory, you could actually cure your arthritis by taking a supplement that contains the antioxidant coenzyme Q10. Unfortunately, finding a supplement that contains this mineral and other antioxidants can be difficult. Most manufacturers of NSAIDs do not include these minerals in their products.

Taking a Supplement that Contains Argan Oil

In theory, you could also cure your joint pain by taking a supplement that contains argan oil, as well as vitamin E and omega-3 fish oil. Some research has indicated that taking the right combination of vitamins can help to repair damaged cartilage. But, since most supplements contain just one vitamin, such as vitamin A or E, and some include only vitamin D or magnesium, which can actually be damaging to the body, it is unlikely that you would be able to take a combination of supplements effectively.

Several Natural Antioxidants

There are several natural antioxidants found in black pepper. Capsicum, a component of Cayenne pepper, has been shown to have a positive effect on free radical damage. Interestingly, some research indicates that capsicum can reduce the incidence of arthritis in some people. So, although this may be a side effect of the high concentration of vitamin e in the cold-pressed groundnut oil, the research suggests that the pepper may have some benefit in reducing arthritis. If this sounds like an interesting supplement for you, check with your pharmacist and see what might be available.
